Peter Neal är engagerad som ny föreläsare under Publika parker och trädgårdar den 12 april, istället för Kim Ellis från Australien, som lämnat återbud. Peter Neal var tidigare chef för CABE Space och medverkade då bland annat som rådgivare i design och uppbyggnad av Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, etablerad till London-OS 2012. Han har ett omfattande internationellt kontaktnät och tillbringar mycket tid på resande fot. Han har anlitats som konsult vid ett flertal tillfällen i samband med utformning av strategier och rapporter - 2014 skrev han rapporten State of UK Public Parks och 2016 rapporter för Heritage Lottery Fund samt studien Rethinking Parks för Nesta, en stiftelse i Storbritannien som arbetar med innovationer.

Under konferensen kommer Peter Neal att föreläsa under rubriken: "The State of UK Public Parks - developing new models of funding and management". Han sammanfattar sin föreläsning på följande sätt:

"The presentation will focus on the current State of UK Public Parks and how towns and cities are responding to the impact of austerity and declining public funding. Reflecting on the findings of two national research studies into urban parks across the UK, I will describe new approaches and new methods of managing and funding parks. These are being developed in response to these complex challenges and trends highlighted by a recent UK Government select committee inquiry into the future of public parks.

New models of management include the creation of park foundations and charitable trusts and the increasing role of social enterprises. Alternative funding strategies explore the potential of park improvement districts, capturing the value of natural capital and ecosystem services, taking into account social return on investment and establishing endowments to secure more resilient and sustainable sources of funding in the future."
